How can it contribute to reducing NCDs?

Speakers: Professor Innes Asher (University of Auckland and Chair of the Global Asthma Network), Neil Pearce (chair)
Venue: Lucas Room – LG81
Date: Friday 2 October 2015
Time: 12.45 – 14.00

The Global Asthma Network was established in 2012 to improve asthma care globally, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries, through enhanced surveillance, research collaboration, capacity building and access to quality-assured essential medicines.

The Global Asthma Network is building on the work achieved by the ISAAC programme over the last 20 years. It operates on the same principle of collaborative and systematic application of standardised methodologies. This is the largest scientific study that has been conducted, involving more than 300 centres in more than 100 countries. It has been cited as a model for the development of health research in low and middle income countries. Furthermore, the ISAAC study itself has yield striking findings, with major international differences in asthma prevalence which are largely unexplained by current theories of asthma causation.
